Keswick, Ullswater and Beyond!

The Lake District is an incredibly popular part of the UK. Not only because of its stunning natural and somewhat rugged landscape, but also because it is an ideal place to explore, adventure and learn. Here at Low Side Farm we love nothing more than being based near  Keswick and we take great pride in welcoming our guests to our neck of the woods.

But what makes us such huge fans of our local area? Here are some of the things that we love about Keswick.

It is small but perfectly formed

Now, we know that Keswick isn’t the biggest place in the world, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t packed full of character, or charm for that matter. Formed around Market Square, where you will find a variety of shops and places to stay, Keswick is a historic town that has plenty to offer those who come to visit. Whether this is shopping, eating or simply just getting active, all of these things are possible in the town and in the surrounding villages too.

The lakes

One of the main reasons that people decide to head to the Lake District, is, as the name suggests the beautiful lakes spread throughout the area. We are in between two of the most beautiful lakes in the Lake District – Derwentwater and Ullswater. Keswick is located on the shores of Derwentwater, which is one of the most popular places to go. However, for those who like the idea of a quieter place to explore then Buttermere, Crummock Water and Loweswater are never far away. Ullswater is also a quieter place to visit, but nonetheless a very popular place due to it’s natural beauty.

The natural landscape

The lakes make up a large part of the amazing landscape and scenery that surround Keswick, however, when you spend some time here you will soon realise that the area has so much more to offer. You will also find a number of valleys in the area too. This includes Borrowdale Valley. These valleys give you some of the best views (not to mention photography opportunities) that you are likely to find in the UK and allow you to take in the rolling hills and luscious green valleys that you may only think happen on the TV.

Our immediate location is at the foot of Blencathra – one of the most famous Lake District fells. You don’t even need to leave the farm to get onto the hillside. We have direct access onto Blencathra, so you can easily escape onto the fells from your micro lodge accomodation.

The great food

If there is one thing that we know how to cook here, it is good quality comfort food. Of course, we can also tackle fine dining and fresh fish is another popular offering (with so much water around us that really isn’t surprising). The only trouble with so many amazing places to eat, is choosing which one is the right one for you, your stomach can sometimes lead you to a few different choices.

The people

One of the biggest things that we take pride in here in the Lake District has to be our people. We are incredibly proud of the place that we live in and we are only too happy to show it off to anyone who cares to visit. After all, we want everyone else to love it just as much as we do!

Think that you love the idea of heading to the area? Why not check out the lodges that we have and see if you can come and explore our beautiful and charming part of the world?
